Shaping the future of EHCPs
Join us at our webinar exploring the benefits and challenges of a national or regional EHCP template
Tuesday 23rd September
3 - 4:30pm
In March 2023, the SEND and Alternative Provision Improvement Plan set in motion a transformative vision for the future of Education, Health, and Care Plans by announcing plans to standardise EHC plans with a national template. In this webinar we explore the potential benefits and challenges of moving to a standardised EHCP template either nationally or regionally.
We’re thrilled to welcome two speakers to this event, Dr André Imich OBE and Abigail Hawkins.
Dr Andre Imich OBE
In this session, André will consider:
- Locally produced EHC plan templates - How did we get to where we are today?
- What issues do these templates raise?
- What might be the benefits of changing to a more common format?
Abigail Hawkins
This short presentation:
- We'll explore the potential benefits and challenges of moving to a standardised EHCP template. Drawing on practical experience as a SENCO,
- Examine how consistency in structure could improve clarity for families, equity across regions, and efficiency for schools and local authorities .
- The talk will highlight the daily difficulties SENCOs face with variable formats, the “postcode lottery” experienced by families, and the administrative burdens that distract from supporting pupils.
- It will outline how a common framework could transform workflows, enhance quality assurance, and support digital integration, while still preserving flexibility and person-centred planning .
Ultimately, the discussion will balance the promise of national or regional standardisation against the risks of over-simplification, emphasising the need for EHCPs to remain living, child-centred documents that drive real educational impact.
Along with two speaker sessions, we'll be hosting an interactive session where you can contribute your thoughts and feedback.
